Sunshine Health Coverage for Equine-Assisted Services

We accept Children's Medical Services (CMS) Health Plan operated by Sunshine Health for eligible equine-assisted services at Vinceremos.
We know insurance paperwork can feel overwhelming. This page explains everything in simple steps so you can feel confident moving forward.

Important Information

  • Vinceremos accepts Sunshine Health (Medicaid) for eligible services.
  • You must have an approved authorization before your child can be added to our waitlist.
  • Sunshine Health typically does not approve services for children under 6 years old. Private pay and scholarship options are available.

How the Authorization Process Works

Here are the typical steps:

  1. Talk with your child’s Primary Care Provider (PCP) – They will complete the required authorization forms.
  2. Gather all supporting documents (see list below).
  3. Submit the request to Sunshine Health (your PCP usually does this).
  4. Wait for approval from Sunshine Health.
  5. Once approved, contact us so we can add your child to the waitlist.
  6. When an opening is available, services can begin.

New Authorization Requests

Your Primary Care Provider must submit the authorization request directly to Sunshine Health before services can start.
Required Documents:

  • Sunshine Health Outpatient Authorization Form
  • Prescription / Order for Expressive Therapy
  • Clinical documentation that explains medical necessity, including:
    • Diagnosis and medical history
    • Functional or cognitive limitations
    • Mental and emotional health status
    • Psychosocial needs
    • Support system and family information
    • Participant strengths and limitations

Submission Methods:

  • Sunshine Health Authorization Portal (preferred)
  • Fax: (866) 796-0526

Renewing Your Authorization

Authorizations are approved for a limited time and must be renewed before they expire to avoid interrupting services.
What is usually needed for renewal:

  • Updated documentation from your child’s doctor
  • Recent assessments or evaluations
  • Lesson notes and progress reports from Vinceremos (we will help provide these)

Tip: Start the renewal process at least 2–3 weeks before the current authorization ends.
